Lishman floor vent system vs pedestals

You say tricky to pour the floor, but wouldnt you have the pipes deep in the hardcore and just uprights to go round? You wouldnt want the concrete shallower for the pipe as it will cause a crack.
Ye it is just the uprights to go round. Slightly more concrete needed as the pipe channels are back filled with concrete instead of stone.

We put a similar system in a few years ago. 9 inch pipes 5m apart about 18 inch under the surface of the hard-core trench filled with open stone, with 4 inch t off every 5m I think there is 6 or 7 to a run and brought up to about a quarter inch under the level of the surface of the concrete with a pipe socket on the end and a bung in concrete straight over the top just remember to measure exactly where they are and break out the floor with a hammer and chisel. For pedestals we use 4inch pipe about half the hight of the grain pile with very thin slots in and a bung on top, all the pipe is just brown underground sewer pipe cheap and cheerful seems to work a treat been in for about 8 years with no problems

How do you know where they are when loading out though? Just keep hoping ones not in the lorry..
They have flags on, and you have to cover the hole with a grate. I'm not sure they are any less faff than pedestals.
To the OP I can see advantages and disadvantages with both. I think the under floor system should be more efficient but I think hygiene will have to be strict and installation cost will be higher IMO.

So you have to fully clean the grain away before removing the "pedestal" I take it to avoid grain going down the pipe?

we have a system of pipes that lay flat on top of the floor at about 3m apart and the fans go in the ends works great for us and worked out a lot cheaper came from robin at plotfeeds grimsby

How does it work if you have trouble estimating the quantity of grain going in so have pipes sticking out of the face of the heap?
