bales this evening with fifty seven year old Lister elevator which cost £180 new. Its on its third Briggs and Stratton petrol engine the newest one just last year imported from the States. Three generations have loaded the bales at the bottom and as mentioned above its an evening job when the top of the shed is cooler.

We have a good example but haven’t used her for at least 15 years. Briggs and Stratton was unreliable took it off but never got it going again. Will try and get a pic

Cousin had relatives over from the states, saw him struggling to start his lawn mower with a Briggs and Stratton fitted, told him 'throw it away and fit another, that's what we do in the states, only cost a few dollars back home'.

Turns out they were designed to be a throwaway object. Of course once you'd taken in all the carriage costs and taxes they weren't so cheap this side of the pond.

Complete machine with briggs an straton engine, it all run perfectly last time it was used.... 30 years ago!. going to have to chop it up for scrap one day.
Wow great to hear there's still another around. Well I haven't got space for another but if scrapping ever might make way over and get some spares off let me know please

Some of you may know or not that for years now B/S have used electronic ign coils if you have a 3.5hp engine these coils can be fitted so points and condenser can be removed but certain 5hp are different and cannot be fitted with later coils.

We had an Ayrshire bale elevator when I was young which I think had a hopper you could fit for roots.

As a 7 year old, I was on the cart helping to feed the elevator. I had to have one foot on the bottom of the elevator in order to lift a bale on. Guess what happened - foot slipped and went down between the bottom cross member and the rotating lats - yes i was lucky but `off games` for the first half term at school!

We upgraded to an electric chain / hook Tong elevator which of course was named Pete..........
He was sold in full working order in 2011.
@90hp farming , was your ayrshire elevator stationary like the lister, or was it mounted on the tractor? There were a couple of tractor mounted ones in our area. Usually on a 35 or similar. Used in the field to load the trailer, and in the yard to feed onto the stack. Youtube and Google don't seem to have much on them.

Your right google has hardly anything on the Lister elevator neither was atleast hoping for a manual, on eBay all sold. I have a problem with front up&down mechanism, yes have oiled/greased it and understand how to operate well ish think that'll just take practice lol so if any spare manuals or mechanisms about yes please.

A couple of things I remember (vaguely and probably wrongly) about the front and rear jack's is that if the one was at a really different angle/position to the other it wouldn't work. Another thing was that didn't you have to push the bar right in to get it to lower? Might be that the "reversing" mechanism might be stuck and not allowing the jack to go the way you want. More lubricant and a smack with a tapping stick.
