Assuming a container is 8’ wide as opposed to 5’6”, it’s 1.45x bigger.
25x 45kg lambs comfortable in a 12’ pickup drawn box give’s 35 lambs for 8’ wide by 12 foot length.
70 lambs for 24’, double for decks brings 140 lambs. Depending on the deck system 140 would be comfortable on 24’.

Just a heads up if the new transport regs that are under get approved as they are written then their will be a allometric equation to determine how many animals will be allowed in a stock box, have a look at the consultation to get an idea of numbers.

Any idea if it will apply to old builds to or only relevant on new builds like these sort of regs usually are?

@JP1 is more up to speed than me but as far as I am aware all cattle transport is affected.
It is a devolved issue thought and NFU Scotland appear to be making head way with the Scottish government whereas the English government are not being very cooperative. Seemingly a lot of pressure and individual response letters from anti farming groups though 😬

Your assumptions are made based on being able to get the full width of the 8’ trailer, the reality is that you loose width at either side plus gate space etc, I wouldn’t put more than 120 finished lambs in the 24ft box I have use of, 6 bins of 20 and if the buggers are wet then they can still be an arse to get in

Not much difference between a 2 compartment 24ft and a 3 compartment 26ft I'd of thought, by the time you have the extra gates. Depending how woolly they are, 120 to 130 in our 24 footer.
