Its going to encompass cattle sheep and pigs.
They say bcms is a sticking plaster job atm.

Lets feed in that bcms works as a system but just needs updating!

And Horses eventually!

BCMS is very old technology and is run by IBM and has already gone past the end of its life. Yes it still functions but it contains a huge amount of incorrect and out of date information, including hundreds of thousands of animals that are no longer alive. IBM charge the government a small fortune for and changes or access to the data hence a new system is required. We all know that ARAMS doesn't work.

We are running out of numbers on the old system for cattle and there are issues with sheep so there will be a new numbering system which BCMS would be unable to handle and so a new platform is required.
John Cross has been Chairman of the TDUG who have been responsible for the design and functionality of the system. He was a former chairman of AHDB beef and lamb.

Re-issue all the cattle tag numbers that are now dead. The new animal will have different parent data and dob. Simple

Now go fix ARAMS and leave the Cumbrians alone

How can they run out of numbers?

You can't expect a government department to embrace an easy fix like that.
There'll need endless rounds of meetings and a massive budget to 'blow' on another computer system that won't be up to the job.

There is a John Cross who milks Jerseys in the Home Counties, well connected, might be him. If so, might be a sensible process

He can set the system up in his spare time between milkings then !! :D

In my opinion BCMS is great and the people that work there just sort out the clerical errors without thinking you are a crook.

ARMS on the other hand is rubbish !
