Interesting you put that up,
When I left school and worked on a dairy farm my boss used to try breed blue albian heifer calves, he said said their wasn't many left and people were trying to get the numbers up, now over 20 years later I googled them a while ago and I thought they said they didn't exist anymore....
Must have another look!
There are still a few about and numbers are growing as more niche markets appear for making cheese or selling raw milk it's an added attraction to have unusual cattle. The breed society lost its way in the Severus I believe but they are trying to get going again and get recognised as a true breed again. I believe the other big herd is down your way @Guiggs.
Not being funny but where was the farm you used to work on ?

It was a little council farm in lutterworth, Leicestershire.
My boss was about my age now, he didn't agree with pushing cows hard and running Holstein and said they would never last long that way. He ran frieshan, jersey etc and had a few blues in amongst them.

Is he still about, it's just the Albion lot are trying to trace any cattle past and present to prove they continued to be bred from the sixths through to the nineties.

Thanks

Last I know he sold up and went down south to manage a pig farm bit I'm in touch with a friend and former neighbour of his who I think would have their contact details... I'll message him tonight and ask!

Just some pics from my collection. Stock bulls over the past few years :) Enjoy!

Calzaghe, one of our 2 stock bulls. Kept as a teaser bull for the time being until we can guarantee his fertility status. Out of proven bull Aton (AI bull) Mother was an excellent mother/milker with a long productive lactation.

Ffos our main stock bull :) He is out of AI bull Garibaldi and his mother is our best milker. She maxed out a 3.5k L peak lactation last year, off grass/haylage with a little cake thrown in. Very long lactation.

Don Giovanni our new, future stock bull. Growing nicely. Don is out of an Elite AI milking bull Massaniello and his mother is a very good milker, easy calver/brilliant mother/good long lactation and peaked at 2.6-7 k litres last year. Very excited about this fella!

Positano, stock bull from a few years back (sadly no longer with us). He was in the top 10 Elite water buffalo bulls in the world, for mozzarella production (IE High butterfat in milk). He has indeed left a long legacy, not only with us but all around the world too! :)
