What a cracking photo. December entry for the next tff calendar

The last calf of 2017, clever CoCo, 10 years old, this is her 8th calf.
She has them female/male year about - so next year's calf will be female (already thinking about choice of AI bull as she is the current stock bull's mother).

pure Bazadaise are always born wheaten coloured
at about 2-3 months they start to turn grey, starting with a dorsal stripe

The power lines are actually a bit away from the forks. Just the angle of the photo makes them look close.

Are they old and strong enough to wean them off milk when you buy them,or are they already on hard/solid feed?

They are about 8/10 weeks old when i buy them so ready to wean. Keep them on milk for a few days till they get over the stress of moving, then once a day for maybe a week or until they are eating plenty of pellets. Most of yesterday's took pellets last night.

How do you avoid buying in pneumonia or BVD?

How do you avoid buying in pneumonia or BVD?

I vaccinate for pneumonia as i buy them. As for BVD i don't test them at the moment but vet is wanting me to start. We are getting rid of the cows this spring so won't have any breeding cattle, all will be sold as stores so not sure about testing.
