No born outside and it’s a gimmer, solid lamb mindIs he wondering why you put him outside in the snow, just to take a picture?

Good luck
Is that sawdust there? For calving on?View attachment 642288 Rather fond of this fella who appeared last week @CharcoalWally
It is fine woodchip rather than pure sawdust. We calve in a few smaller pens which are straw bedded and then into the bigger woodchip pens after a day or so. Woodchip wouldn't be the best to calve on as it would stick to the calve etc.Is that sawdust there? For calving on?
A good half of all in- lamb ewes pulled out of snow drifts will go down with twin lamb in a week or so,and end up on the dead cart in any case.View attachment 648108 knew my mental lab must be good at something, finding buried sheep. Hopefully she’ll make a full recovery.
@huwralph that’s a real blue, none of this crossing sh1te!!
If she was hard she wouldn't have been found lifeless needing heat.Correct born in -6 in a shed with snow blowing in. motionless when found, bit of milk and heat and two days later shes skipping around. not so soft after all.
Unfortunately the ewe that lambed her aborted last years twins a month early, so has never reared a lamb before and never licked this ewe lamb when she was born. hence why she was lifeless, wet and cold. luckily her instincts have now kicked in and shes getting the hang of mothering her.If she was hard she wouldn't have been found lifeless needing heat.
I'll let you off then . Better keep a close eye on that one next year then.Unfortunately the ewe that lambed her aborted last years twins a month early, so has never reared a lamb before and never licked this ewe lamb when she was born. hence why she was lifeless, wet and cold. luckily her instincts have now kicked in and shes getting the hang of mothering her.
