You would be surprised.
The young bull was getting up to 4kg a day of a calf grower ration till turnout in April, he was 13 months then. He has been on grass since with no additional feeding. He has been with the cows for 6 weeks and is still flying.
Once the calves are weaned off the cows, they get the worst grass on the farm to graze then I still struggle to get condition off them in the house prior to calving on restricted silage the heifers leave and straw.

My females never see a drop of hard feed once they are weaned, young bulls a fed a moderate diet so I can assess potential properly. They way I figure if they thrive with minimal feeding they are worth breeding from.
My cows raring calves get the best grass I have but they are paying the bills with a calf at foot one one inside them.

Those cows came from that place because I asked. They were over stocked so Stan took three black / whites and AI'd them and the calves came blue (Stan Richardson, High Row, Lupton)
