Cattle look cleaner and drier than my sheep which are just about swimming 🙉

All stock here are ok at moment. Had a lot of rain last 24 hours but I’m in free draining ground.

Nothing will come inside hopefully.

Most of the cattle are in the field the bull is pictured in. It’s a bit of a sacrifice field this year And will go into kale in the spring and then re-seeded in autumn 2021.

He’s 5. He was halter trained and has been shown as a yearling and at 2 years old. Not by me I hasten to add.

I’ve never put a halter on him.

But he is quiet and happy with his female company.
I used to cross to Red Angus but wasn’t crazy about their temperament. Chose Red Devon partly for temperament and because they do well on 100%forage.

Exactly why I chose them plus it’s my local breed being based in Devon.

I want a hardy beast that forages well and just needs grass/haylage.

Happy outside in winter.

Would anyone feel free to give me an overview of Devon Red cattle, positives AND negatives.

In no particular order or reason

Hardy
Stubborn
Quiet
Fantastic eating qualities
No need for hard feed
Easy calving, bull/dam depending
No need to house, with the right ground
Not best suited to selling live or dead, but a good story to sell direct.
Cheap to keep
Nice to look at

Thanks @Jerry would you say they are on the smaller side as cattle go?

One other question, is there an alternative to selling live or dead, like somewhere that buys half dead cattle? 👀 Asking for a friend 😉😁

Let these boys out the other day while I cleaned out their house. Ground wet under foot I wouldn't want to leave them out too long
