Livestock trailer floor thickness

Going to replace an old ifor livestock trailer floor that is u/s, common practice seems to be to use ply/board and then ali check plate on top. Although I am sure this is cheaper, I was thinking of ditching the board and just having having straight ali check plate say 6mm or 4.5mm thick, rationale being that water seems to get trapped between the two which inevitably leads to rot and floor failure.

6mm would surely be strong enough?

Don't know if thick enough but will be very dear i would go with I inch thick treated larch as they where new

leave a one inch gap between each board to avoid trapping moisture
if you decide to put just aluminum plate on you will need to use tape to stop corrosion ( thick sticky stuff )

Ply wood is no good, planks about 9x1 with a inch gap between, then thin alloy on top

Think ifors just use 6x1 treated softwood...

A 2.3m x 1.25m x 6mm sheet is 200 quid a sheet, so planking and then thin tread must be the way forward!

Price the different options and price changing the trailer too. I know someone who did the same with a flat trailer and it was cheaper to trade it in for new.
