Lleyn Shearlings

I know this is a way off yet, but just putting feelers out and trying to work out a budget for the year. How much would 100 lleyn shearlings (pure or pedigree) set me back? Good health status, good feet, preferably EAE accredited. May even consider NZ Suffolk/Texel x lleyn. And would anybody have this amount to sell this summer/ autumn? South west preferred due to transport costs. PM me if you would rather.

Thanks

Have lleyns on my parents farm, bought the first ones in 2009. Bought from multiple farms at the society sales at Exeter. Main piece of advice I would have for someone looking to buy some is to buy them all from one farm if possible. Also try to buy them from a harder farm than your own with a good health status. We bought lots of good sheep but also some complete rubbish, so much variation in the breed.

Totally agree with what you have said. We've been buying from Exeter too, a lot of stock coming out of the show ring don't stand up to a commercial farm. Also with buying a relatively big number this year, I want them all from one farm rather than here there and everywhere

Might be worth speaking to the Crudge's up near Exmoor, Morebath. I bought some ewe lambs of them a couple of years back and very pleased with them:

Another place I am going to look into for a new ram is:

They may well have ewes for sale as well.
The person running PerformanceLleyns is 100% on the ball and has been using detailed recording for both performance and functional traits for many years. He won the Signet award for the most improved Lleyn Recorded Flock last year. A neighbour with a large flock who has been buying rams off him for many years described him as "far too honest for his own good".

Sounds perfect to me. Will make contact soon.

My last Lleyn ram came from some one who has had to give up but I liked his stock. That ram has gone on to another forum member as he was coming back on his daughter if not. Hopefully he has done well @Poorbuthappy ? (Probably to early to tell given the date I sold him)
