Load sensing problem.

Ok this will be a longish post so apologies now.

John Deere 6820, when we bought it told the dealer I wanted it set up for load sensing so that was done and left me with this.
Image1462922308.358435.jpg

Which is return at the bottom, then a half inch flow and a 3/8 load sensing pipe.

Got the dealer for the baler to come out and change it over to load sensing, so that involved taking out a small bung, replacing it with a male-male quarter inch adaptor. There was also a few wee small things up in past that which were fitted with Allen keys. All good so we thought, plug it all up and nothing happens. It seems to try and move things or lift but it just doesn't work. If I pull a spool as in one of the three normal ones even though there is nothing plugged into that it will work away but very fast. Obviously this isn't right.
Tractor dealer said oh you need to fit a non return valve on the load sensing line and that will cure it. So got one and fitted it today and we're still no further on.

So anybody experienced anything similar and able to point me in the right direction?

It's a long time since I did one of those. I fit an MF185 baler onto a JD6920S. Now, this tractor had a loader fitted so it was already piped into the 'power beyond' ports. I recall that I had to fit a check valve into the LS line from the front axle
I'll have to have a bit more of a think. Have you tried the baler on someone else's tractor??
You're obviously not getting any signal back from the baler LS. Dead ending a spool, lifts the system pressure to 'high standby'. Therefore the baler is working..
You need either item 8 or 21 from the attached image

Thanks I'll have to have another look to work out where that diagram actually is on my tractor.
I tried it on my 6506 which is piped for 'power beyond' and it was doing the same thing.

Hmmmmmm,,,,,,,, I think the problem may be in the baler then..
I had to use the extra LS check valve as the tractor had a loader already fitted into the 'power beyond' ports.. I think it was AL80837 Spool Valve, No 21 in the drawing.
So,,,,, if you have no loader I can't see why it won't work as it is!!

Another point, on the slice that the flow comes out of there are two points for me to use, it's currently in the top hole but it could equally be in the bottom hole. Would that make any difference?

I took tractor to my cousins tonight as he has a claas baler which has load sensing on it, plugged all up and it worked although it didn't seem to be giving it full power, slow to lift tail door etc. On my Ls line to the baler I have a non return valve should it be point away from or towards the tractor?

Your ls slice is the good type. So that screw on top of the slice... Remove the top cap and undo the lock nut on the adjuster screw. Screw it down till it stops and back it off half to one turn.

You wont be getting as good hydraulic operation to the implement if its set at the factory settings.

What are the t pieces and pipes off the right hand scv 's for?
The pipes are teed off there for the push out pickup hitch, with a block to lock it off just above.

I would just double check that your baler is set for load sensing. I think you could even power it from a spool valve and just leaving the ls line out.

I have been running the baler for the past 3 years the way you describe, it has definitely been set up now for load sensing by a mechanic that works for the dealership.

The check valve will be in the direction to the tractor. From memory so ball can open to flow towards tractor. You'll soon know as the power beyond wont work at all.

Ok great thanks I'll try it this evening when I'm back home.

Does your tractor have front linkage or a loader ? We had same problem with our 6830 and we had to fit a check valve on the line to loader. Also what baler are you running? If it's a fusion make sure the valve block is set for load sensing (daft I know but best to check)

It has front linkage but it's just piped to a spool and you can plug it in and out. Baler is a tarrup bio and as far as we can tell it is its fault, but it is set up how it should be.
