Dad had a Blue one of those. His had a 180 Gardener in it. He tells some rare stories from those days! Nice to look back at those old trucks, can’t beat a bit of nostalgia, but I suspect they were tough days at the wheel compared to modern vehicles. I also suspect they were probably the best times to be in haulage, the jobs certainly not got any easier.

Dad had a Seddon Atkinson 8 wheeler with a Gardner engine. Think it was a 180. First lorry he ever owned.

The smoke upon cold start up could strip your skin off and blind you, it revved up to 1400 rpm flat out and the lorry blistered along at a howling 47mph downhill.

Hideous thing.

Many years ago whilst working in Wisconsin the combining contractor arrived in a foul mood having been ticketed for towing 5 empty gravity box grain trailers down the highway behind a pickup , the combine driver also got stopped for having a horse standing up in the bed of a pickup haltered to the ladder rack/roll bar .neither thought they had done anything wrong .
