Loader history?

I remember a contractor arriving with a new back end loader. My father would say how the contractor cleared the mixon (dung heap on the yard) in a day but my father took a week to clear up and repair after him. He had pushed the muck all over the place, under gates, down the lane and bending zinc sheets on doors, etc. But it was great progress from a dung fork. He later bought a second hand grey and gold Fergie with a fork. Must have been about 1967.

All interesting stuff, surprising how quickly they became present on nearly every farm in the country. I suppose you could argue been replaced by telehandlers?

Two 996s with loaders here, both of them older than I am. David Brown loaders were some of the best available at that time.
Put the loader on a 995 with a weather frame cab and no power steering, big improvement on the 900. Then put it on the 996 with a wide door q cab, recently fitted the heavier duty front axle, top job .
Have also got a 1390 with a loader, water ballast and a concrete weight but not a patch on the 996. IMO they messed up the balance when they put the new cabs on

We have 1 weatherframe and 1 Sekura LP cab, the LP is the best cab for loader work. I need to find a couple of heavy duty front axles. The standard axle isn't up to loader work with wide tyres.

My father had an international b250 with a loader in the sixties,it had a great lift and it was mounted well back and gave great weight distribution ,it was streets ahead of anything else at the time

We had a Horndraulic (I think) on a Nuffield 1060 (without power steering) in the 70's - dreadfully heavy, almost undriveable.
This was followed by a Farmhand F12 on a John Deere 3130 - great combination, huge lifting capacity. It stayed around for best part of 20 years until I bought a Sanderson 622 telehandler - just stopped using it overnight. Different class and capability of machine.

I would take some persuading to go back to even a modern tractor and loader.
