X3 535-95 loadalls and a Volvo L70F here,I dig out the silage with the shear grab on one of the loadalls and fill the feeder with a push out bucket on the Volvo, the great thing about the loadalls is one step and your on the seat.

You’d have to give an 8000 hour 434 a good check over around the articulation, you can shim them to tighten up any slack though I think. Depends what work it’s been on I suppose. Engine and box should be fine.
@Jack Russell any advice?

Brother runs a Volvo L70 and can fill his 24 cube BvL with the NC shear grab without any issues and it has the standard boom. There is a toe tip bucket in the yard that was used in the early days with the loader to fill a Keenan but I cannot recall the last time I seen him use it.

For mucking out sheds he uses the 12 or 14ft fork that is also used when it’s on the clamp.

The benefit of the loading shovel is that you can move a lot of stuff in one bucket full without having to race around. With the right attachment ie a bale spike with a high back that allows you to lift three at a time, you can still stack big straw bales to a reasonable height.

JCB seem to wear faster than the industrial alternatives. We have a 426 on around 9500hrs, had the centre pivot shimmed a few times and the pump renewed at 9000hrs. We also have a Volvo lh70 which is 8 years younger. It’s in a different class. Built really well. Just the ad blue system that lets it down constantly. It’s 0n 500hrs now. Should easily do 15k with me. Depends how many hours you expect to do annually. I would stick to something that is at least built with agriculture in mind. As @eulb says, the shovels take a bit more getting in and out of. Once you’ve done it a few times you don’t want to be on and off a lot.

Had loadalls in the past you have got the reach with them , A good all round machine for every day use . But for clamp work ,loading work you cannot beat a loading shovel . I wish I had purchased them 10 years sooner it was a game changer for us .
When they was out in the field loading made less mess than the loadalls
never had a problem with any concrete with them breaking it
in all the time we was operating them .
All the attachments for the loadalls and the loading shovels was the same back plates.
And we used toe tip buckets on the loadalls as well has the loading shovels.
thing with a loading shovel they just keep going I would think of nothing to put over 20,000 hours on them.

Know a farm milking over 1000 cows using a cat shovel for the feeding, from what I remember it took a fair bit of work to get the 3 ram shear grab to work on it as the centre ram would hit the massive z linkage when open and they have to cut everything out and then use a toe tip to load the feeder, may have changed the setup to avoid changing to the toe tip now but haven't been there in a while

Be good to compare lifetime costs and depreciation of the Volvo and JCB when the Volvo also gets to 9500 hours @Jack Russell ,yeah it’s been shimmed and had a new pump but you can’t deny it’s been a great machine, makes me feel a bit sad when we say the Volvo is better :ROFLMAO:

Pictures of the Volvo doing the business please! And your spreaders as well.

Get a Cat 966 with joystick steering and custom buckrake. let the trailers come at you in the pit 😂😁. Might need to make some yards a bit bigger but be a decent outfit.

On a more serious note, as has been said get a decent quarry brand shovel with long arm. Then build a loading ramp or platform for the feeder.

Local 1000 cow dairy farm here switched to a case shovel two years ago,as well as running a 320s. They use like a spinning rotor similar to a grassland airator to shave the maize, whole crop and grass silage from the face of the pit with the shovel, then load the twin tub mixer wagon with a tip toe bucket on the shovel. It runs rings over the 320s and a sheer grab, saves a hell of a lot of time per mix.

Can’t deny the jcb has been a great machine. It’s just when you get out of that and straight into the Volvo you see the difference.
