It used to be possible to ring the local airport "Manchester Ringway" and ask for the met office there . You then asked for a "Farmer's Forecast " . Usually , a cheery sort of chap would say "Thinking of mowing a bit then Where are you ?" You would then get a positive or negative reply along the lines of "Well I'd give a day or two longer , it'll be raining by teatime perhaps . Or yes , go ahead it's going to be fine for a day or two now " Very valuable info , but sadly , no longer available . (As with so many other services )
