Location Conundrum

Hi,

Didn't know where to post this, so my apologies and please move if wrong location!

Anyhoo, due to potential changes in current circumstances, we may be looking to relocate down further south (Rural), commutable distance to Bristol area, so would ideally appreciate some insight to local areas to avoid, reasons why, and more importantly - the better areas to look for a property with land.

Two areas we thought:

Taunton,

Chepstow

Concerns are obviously rural crime levels, things to do etc.

Thanks in advance for any insight, as you cannot read a lot about any area by sales literature.

South of Bath (N. Somerset) is prettily rural with great farming (and coal mining) history.

Old Severn Bridge will be toll-free sometime in 2018 but is susceptible to being closed if there's a slight breeze.

Also you need to have a good train line into Bristol as the M5 is a car park in summer and not much better the rest off the year as its closed for several hours at least one day a week due to accidents!

I would have thought your money will go further in Taunton or Wiltshire, Chepstow and the wye valley area is a handy commuting area for M4/M5 and the horsey/goodlifers have pushed the prices way up for anything with land.

Bristol to Weston Super Mare junction on M5 is an absolute PITA in rush hour periods in the winter never mind the summer (n)

House prices in Chepstow have jumped on news tolls will cease or drop to dartford type levels £1 hence all the new distribution centres on the M49......

If you can avoid need to cross Bristol...........

Come down to Bath and surronding villages ,colerne ,marshfield are nice rural community ,if a tad bit windy though.

Will check out those suggestions, thank you. What is the local travelling fraternity like with borrowing things?

Why Chepstow if you want to commute to Bristol? You like paying bridge tolls?

Tolls are supposed to be removed, and that side of the water was recommended by some friends who live near to there.

Not really sure yet to be honest, depends on what we get for ours - as do not want to increase the mortgage. Obviously the cheaper the better, but our requirements are to try and match our current acreage (25), whereby the house needs are slightly less important, but needs scope to develop into a home.

Bristol is the pits of a place sorry

Bristol is maybe, but we do not want to live in Bristol. We are looking for rural property with some land with an easy commute to Bristol.

Bath area is nice, are you looking to farm or somewhere just nice to live?

We are looking to replicate what we have here - around 25 acres some barns etc to allow us to have a small holding eventually, and some stables for the nags.

We feel this too - but thought I would ask the question on here to see what the experiences are from people living around Bristol commute belt. I know certain areas flood a lot, as we see the effects when we visit our friends down south, so would ideally like to avoid flooding.
