Is anyone on here commercially force log drying using bins / containers.

trying to find out what spec the fans and heat use are so I can run some figures.

been approached by someone local who can’t dry enough to satisfy demand, just doing some research again!

I use solar kilns. As for forced drying I think the boat has sailed. Your local might have had the plug pulled on there drying kiln similar to some around here. The new log rules do not help.

We have spoken about your set up before. If I was going into this game I’d be going down your route for sure.

however this is only another possible side arm which I want to explore.

he is drying already at an AD plant But is looking for more.

i need to double check but I think I have the paperwork to dry logs so I don’t think the ship has sailed.

the new log rules will only Make this in more demand surely?

You need to make sure you can get them certified as drying by a third party I cannot see as being within the woodsure rules. It will increase demand but only for unseasoned deliveries in excess of 2m3. The cost of woodsure certification will make kiln dried uncompetitive compared to unseasoned.

I’m only looking to dry a few bins every few weeks for someone else to then sell.
Would really not touch this with a barge pole. Go on the woodsure web site and look under the suppliers terms and conditions that suppliers have to sign upto to become woodsure assured. Basically its a snoopers charter. As a supplier you have to give woodsure the name and address of the customer who they can then randomly check to see whether the moisture content is less than 20% by splitting the log in two and measuring the internal moisture. Most kilns flash dry which gives the right moisture content on the outside but leave a wet middle of the log. Penalties for getting it wrong are harsh.
