Hi , what’s everyone’s thoughts on the best brand of log splitter ? Is pto driven much of an advantage over straight from tractor hydraulics ? Thanks
Pto drive means a grey Fergie will split as much as a new £100,000 tractor. 19 ton posch here hasn't been stopped yet. Just leave the tractor on 1000 pto above tickoverHi , what’s everyone’s thoughts on the best brand of log splitter ? Is pto driven much of an advantage over straight from tractor hydraulics ? Thanks
Don't think a grey Fergie would run my Posch, it stalls the 35 fairly easily.Pto drive means a grey Fergie will split as much as a new £100,000 tractor. 19 ton posch here hasn't been stopped yet. Just leave the tractor on 1000 pto above tickover
I was meaning value wise. An older tractor won't pump fast enough or with high enough pressure. Cycle times with independent pump would be quickerDon't think a grey Fergie would run my Posch, it stalls the 35 fairly easily.
As for the OP, I'd say Posch is the best brand. Whether you need the best brand is a different question and it depends what you are splitting, how much and what for. I'd say for domestic use a basic Oxdale on a 40+ HP tractor will take some beating.

Horizontal or vertical log splitter.Hi , what’s everyone’s thoughts on the best brand of log splitter ? Is pto driven much of an advantage over straight from tractor hydraulics ? Thanks
As above,I meant age/ spec / condition wise. Hell of a lot of majors running pto spitters and processors as good as a new fendt would. 70 HP on a 1000 pto fast idle is quiet and stress freeHow many Grey Fergies were built with 1000 PTO?

Are they??Can highly recommend Oxdale splitters. Local made and very good value for money
Odd reply.Are they??
Yes, you are correct. My fault but I'd expect the person who sells them to know about the wearing parts and where to get them. And if the customer doesn't know that he will be treated with civility and respect.Odd reply.
In my opinion yes
I remember now. You're the man who made a song and dance about getting a standard pto shear bolt and shipped them in from America
I can 100% assure you they are made on the industrial estate 2 miles from me. Also run a state of the art laser profiling shop and powder coating setup. Everything is made and assembled in house except the range of del morino machine that comes in from Italy.Yes, you are correct. Buy Oxdale and the insults come free. Cheat me once, shame on you. Cheat me twice, shame on ME! Make sure you don't get cheated too.
Made in Britain? Of course they are!
I bought a big fancy Posch Hydro combi and my missus said I had to sell the others if I bought it. No idea why she said it or why I listened because it's nowt to do with her.We have an Oxdale TM400, we run on a MF135 @ 1300rpm, plenty of pressure.
I couldn't recommend it highly enough.
