Log splitter

I have, why do you ask?
An Oxdale doesn’t just split anything and everything put before it, you need to be able to “read” the log.
Anyone that has spent some time on the end of an axe will have gained this knowledge.
I can split most things easy with the Oxdale but my son was forever getting it stuck, he had never used an axe and I could see it was bound to get stuck the way he used it.
I asked because I wondered if that why you found yours disappointing. I was surprised you were so disappointed because mine replaced an axe and even on an old IH276 it was a massive step up, on a SAME 90 it was just wonderful.

What diameter, length of wood do you want to split,as such a big subject?

I would think the max diameter would be 2' 600mm ish, I would probably chainsaw into lengths of 12-16" 300/400mm
We have a lot of Ash die back, and Im just getting prepared for the onslaught!

I looked at nearly every make thoroughly - and also sent an Irish one back due to poor manufacturing - the best I could find for £850 was the Browns - highly recommended and would definitely buy again

For those that are recommending the Oxdale splitter; are the bigger / wider base on the TM400 hydraulic splitter 'must have' on them? The standard base looks very small?
I sat mine on pallets , trailer or similar to give a bigger table.

I had an Irish one which wasn't finished very well, worked OK though and a good design imo.

Have an Oxdale, as said above, it will go through most but not everything. You need to be able to know where split.
Also did a few modifications, made a wide table so that the split logs don’t fall, legs so that it’s easier to yoke to the tractor and made it a single handle to operate easier

Oxdale do bigger ones, some of the comments above about not going through all wood etc, it maybe some just need a bigger machine. Been using our PTO 1000 today, think it splits 1500mm long logs didn't stop at anything, tick over on an MF135

There is a balance to be made with log splitters. 30 tonne splitter on a big tractor with big oil flow and all good. Put the same splitter on a mf 135 and it will be as slow as heck as not enough oil flow.
So a 10 tonne oxdale will suit most situations and if you are prepared to learn the technique you can split most logs. Some just need a bit of thinking about.
