Log splitting

You want a haki pilke 37 easy. They have hydraulic controls so you don't have to pull the saw down yourself. 50hp is probably more than enough. All you're running is a hydraulic pump and the saw. 50hp saw [emoji41][emoji41]

The one we hire is a Trakmet, its Polish built, the chap has had it for 4 years and only replaced the elevator belt in that time. it'll take an 18" diameter log and split them up to 750mm in length! Just to give you an idea on price these sell at around 12K new for the 25ton automatic version and the hydraulic deck is about £3.5k, the common brands equivalent would be upwards of 30k from quotes i have received. I would not consider a processor without a deck they go hand in hand.

How much a day does that hire out at? We just got the bill for 3 days with a man processing, 1300£. So I'm serious about buying a decent sized machine cos we have the labour and have tractors to drive the pto, wouldn't want to spend much more than 5/6 grand. What's folks suggestions? @Simmy how much would a second hand haike 37 cost ?

One on ebay at the minute. Very tidy £6500
Don't be scared off by the price. They hold there money very well. Mate has a ten year old one and to trade in he was gonna get 4 grand for it

Pulling the handle down really isn't that difficult!
Used to have a Japa that you had to pull the handle down to cut the log which was ok with a nice new chain but once the edge goes off the chain and some bigger stuff to chop it’s not so good. Tennis elbow type pain occurs after a while.
Try and get a hydraulic controled one with a circlular saw . There’s less maintenance on them . If your budget will stretch that far . A deck is also needed and a grab .

Side mounted pto on the major. Timber trailer on the back to use the crane to load the bench. Tractor runs on tick over. Quite an outfit.

That's an impressive bit of kit. How long to process an artic load. I've been wondering if processing 1m billets would be quicker than a processor producing 500mm logs. I'd say the processor would win with a log deck?

Never processed an artic in one go but it’s not as quick as it should be. We’re always tinkering with it and making it faster but started costing a lot so given up for now and making do but things like putting proper log grab on would be quicker rather than the home made one. I’ve never been able to make the saw cut on its own so it’s done by hand but we still have to put a fair bit of pressure on the saw to get it to go through a big log. I always thought a saw that size spinning as fast as it does would pull itself through a log but that’s not the case for some reason. You would process an artic load into half meters quicker than mine into 1meters just because my machine isn’t perfect and needs lots of work to get it perfect.
