Hmm Goldsmiths university. Don't know much about them but I do know they are not a Russell Group university. They are most likely a converted 'poly tech' specialising in cheap degrees for the aimless dross that aren't clever enough to do a decent degree at a proper university. It says it all that they are publicising themselves weeks before clearing starts.

I do hope that in the interests of the environment they have also shut down all the student bars on campus and made it alcohol free as growing crops for recreational alcohol consumption must be one of the most wasteful things we do as a species.

And what about all the lighting and hydroponics to grow all the dope they'll smoke sitting about between their weekly lecture? Mind you, that might give them the munchies and help trade at the burger van!

Have just come off the phone from Goldsmith University. ...they are unable to comment and I was put through to the Press dept. I then spoke to a very helpful person who was sympathetic to my concerns about them banning red meat products from their campus . He said .... "make an official complaint by email to .. [email protected] "
Off the record he said ..."the more the better ! "

I encourage all on this forum to do the same thing .

Nothing wrong with old Polytechs thank you. Just because an establishment is or is not a big brass place like Cambridge or a Russell group university does not mean much. I think you will find a character recently posted a research based questionnaire on this very forum and hailed from one of your vaunted establishments. Suffice to say I dont think many people were impressed.

I emailed the head of faculty to express my shock that they would send out something of such poor quality

Agree. it's often better to look at the faculty ratings for the subject you are interested in rather than the overall university, that goes for research papers as well.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I have just read in the paper that you are banning beef consumption in your university refectory. I do hope that the press have got the "wrong end of the stick", as any examination of available research would show that climate change is ameliorated by grazing livestock. I can not believe that an educational establishment would blindly follow the blinkered views of the vegan minority.

If I am not wrong and you do wish to ban beef, I think it is a terrible shame to act in such a mindless way. If I wished to do my bit to stop climate change, I would tender that you should not take foreign students (air travel), sell any rice products (rice production causes great release of climate gasses), obviously install drinking fountains and ban all bottled beverages. I wonder too if there is any rationale for alcohol, as we can all live without it and it's production uses resources but aids nothing in our continued existence.

I could give a myriad of reasons why grass fed, local, meat is good for the environment, but just study work done by Alan Savory.

yours

I wonder if a change of diet from fewer burgers to more broccoli will have an effect on pyro flatulence.

It could make an interesting study for an Honours or Ph D thesis. But can today's students be trusted with matches?

I would hastily add ...please read through carefully what you put in an email before you press the send button !!
Indeed. Illiterate verbal or written diarrhoea, that says too much of possibly the wrong thing, is worse than saying nothing at all.
All a post needs is to express an objection. No explanation is necessary.

I do not care a jot about ratings, prior alumni, official leage tables or whose old boys network tells the what-what. Education has become a huge money making scheme and is open to suspicion in my book. People cannot be classified by mere exam results or which uni they went to. The entire country is being run by folk who have outstanding necessaries but whom have never had a job before and the ever present nepotism is still a feature. Buyer beware in all regards. Research also needs to be heavily scrutinised.

And some say that the unis are full of really clever people, looks like some would have a job to fight their way out of a paper bag

Kids are being brainwashed at school. See it with my teen grandson. Every opportunity I get I attempt to counteract some of it, but my brain is not as sharp as his is being made - IMO in the wrong direction :(

It is a form of state sponsored child abuse. Same as compulsory religious education in schools but driven by the even more sanctimonious lunatic fringe. They are putting the fear of bejesus into children through making them think the world is coming to an end through man made global warming, plastics, emissions, meat eating and so on, turning them into militant little 'eco warriors' and possible future terrorists.

The loonies have already taken over the asylum.

But what do we expect?

Someone with a PhD in maths or physics can waltz into being a teacher in a secondary school right this second, might not have the foggiest about the real world but you can get in front of children!
