Anyone got any pictures of Livestock Marts in their Hey day, that are now closed down.

To start it off.

Salford Mart - now a suburb of Manchester, once had its own Mart.
In its Time I understand it to have been the 2nd largest Market in the country.
With over 2.5k Cattle and 11k sheep going through.
It had 6 slaughter houses, and its own Bank.

The Cattle Market on Cross Lane opened 12 July 1837.
Dec 12-14 1872 The first Fat Cattle Show held in Salford.
Dec 12 1910 Salford Fat Cattle Show revived after 18 years.
27 February 1922 market closed due to outbreak of foot and mouth disease.
End January to 25 March 1924 closed due to foot and mouth disease.
March 31 1931 Cross Lane Cattle Market closed for good.

Just reading a bit more about Salford Mart'
It seems in the 1830s there was a lot of dissent on the 'council owned' markets of Manchester, and when it first opened in 1937 Salford was still playing second fiddle to Smithfield.
It was so decided to lease it to 2 influential cattle dealers (hoping it would fail further, and the would be shafted by the rent encumbered upon them) The 2 dealers were William Higginson & John Nall.
These 2 men were able to persuade their fellow dealers to transfer their trade from Smithfield.
