Wolverhampton cattle market turn of the 20th century

Thanks for posting the picture @fingermouse

I can just about remember the newer Wolverhampton market it's somewhere under the ring road where the metro's wishbone bridge is now. Along with the abattoir and ice plant.

There was an F.H.Burgess' building near by too.

Do any of you have memories of any of these places?

i think the big problem these days is the cattle are not handled, they come from the hills wild, we buy single sucled calves and some come as wild as wild can be i always make a point of going in the pen and talking to them lets not forget the poor buggers have only been handled to be injected or dehorned or castrated no wonder they are wild by the end of the winter they are like pets

Does it say Leominster on the prize card @wr. ? Before my time but is it Frank Morgan the auctioneer in the trilby?

I'm glad you picked up on this. You're correct, it is Leominster and Frank Morgan was the auctioneer. I had been told but I'd forgotten. Peter Mayberry top left?

This is not Congleton cattle market, it is J Haydon's yard in Wharf Rd, Biddulph about 1960 - my photo as are Banbury 1993 and Leek Market 1950s - no problem though, I'm glad they're being shared.

Haydons were regulars at Newcastle U Lyme (Mondays) Congleton (Tuesdays) Leek (Wednesdays) Banbury & Chelford (Thursdays) Mold & Beeston (Fridays) Uttoxeter (Saturdays). Also Crewe & Shrewsbury
congo market as we called it was off box lane wasnt it heading towards macclesfield
