Seen these before but may not be long enough, or wide enough base

I bought a pair similar to those, a family member borrowed them and one actually broke the casting. I imagine they weren't being used correctly as I had used them for much heavier machines and he had only jacked up a car, but I would avoid cast ones in the future because of this. Something to consider.

i was looking for a good strong pair of axle stands before Christmas but when i found "proper" HD ones they were fairly strong money, a couple of hundred each kinda thing, maybe the shop was dear tho....

the stuff the big players were touting looked just about ok to me tbh as im sure their trying to make stuff cheap enough to sell over anything or anyone else.

either way, i went and made my own pair over the holidays, made one first and realized my mistake so corrected it on the second stand.
50x50x6 angle iron and 50mm odd OD pipe with a 6mm wall.
you'd need a lathe to knock out a boss or two but the rest is simple, nothing more than some patience with a saw and a drill, i made up heavy tops on the pipe but less would do.

closed at 450mm and fully open at 800mm.
some day they will get paint but their not 100% finished yet.

thats the thing, the decent sized ones are big coin, iirc the ones i was pricing were £230 a piece and yer man was telling me he had them cut to the bone at that.
necessity is the mother of invention i say, not that there was much invention there, more plagiarism than anything.
i made the mistake of putting the 30x6 flats too low on the first one i made, i raised them up on the second one so as they could fit over the jack wheels which is by far a better job.

The downside to home made is the lack of a certified rating on them for the insurance job. I have one stand a college was throwing out because its plate had come off. Unfortunately they only had one like that.

Like telehandler attachments I expect you could get them certified if you wanted.

your right, to be PC about the whole thing it would need a cert.
in my case its not required but if i had to there is a place 40 mins from me here that can cert it.
i dont know what weight my stands would take but i do know it ill take more than i could ever put on it.

In my previous life as an engineer we made some from H beam with a thick bit of plate bent up at either edge for the top and heavy angle iron feet for stability they worked a treat

So after showing Mutt n Geoff here with no clothes on, i took pity/shame on them so over a few evenings I got to pimping them out, ended up gettin all artsy but sure what odds, their easy found in the dark...., a couple of handles each, a pair of fat washers, a bit of threading, some sand, a bit of 2k, a lick with the devilbiss, some stainless bling and in no time at all they were ready for the ball.

Hope ye all approve...:D
