The bevel gearbox on our old JF muckranger 90 has given up

Does anyone know where there's a spare one lying around or another make that would do? I'm willing to adapt the machine. It's a 1:1 ratio.

Ours used to do that on a weekly basis. Dad modified our spreaders to use gear boxes from a grass hopper mower conditioner. Had uj's fitted to driveshafts as well and had no further bother with them. This was way back in the 80's. Our spreaders have been replaced by richard westerns since 2001 and I cant remember if we have any of the original old jf boxes lying around anywhere. Will have a look in the morning.

@jhorr30 did you ever find any spares lying around? I'd happily pay for them. I need to sort it in the next few weeks.

Cheers

It doesn't look anything like mine....which is still attached to the spreader trailer.
I guess it must be the side mounted one that drives the beaters ?

It looks different but that seems to be serving the same function. It's the right angle gearbox that suits under the back of the spreader at the centre on the end of the long drive shaft and transfers the drive to the gears at the side. Unless I get a direct replacement then I'm going to have to modify the shafts to take UJ's instead of the duplex chain connections so any suitably strong gearbox the rights size would do.

With the help of my neighbour's engineering shop I'm happy to make the change to UJ's.

I'll post a photo of the spreader showing where it fitted.

Yeah, same thing then.....yet gearbox is different:scratchhead:
I should imagine any right angle gearbox would do ? something off a scrap topper maybe ?

I cant see anything laying around at the moment. I will have another dig.
I am sure our boxes where triangle shaped when you looked at them from the bottom.
To be honest I am pretty positive the gearbox didn't join to the shaft with a duplex chain round the cog. Probably around 20 years if not more since we did any real work with them.
