Hi All and thanks for at least reading my post.
Im a 53 year old overweight bloke who lost his best mate and son 2 years ago to cancer.
Struggled to find something to do without him and just bought a Metal detector to get me out of the house and moving around a bit.
Been reading up on the laws etc and first and foremost its obvious you cant just go marching off across someones fields.
So im here to ask of anyone has any land or knows of anyone with any land who would be interested in letting me have a go on thier land?
It goes without saying i would treat it with respect and declare anything i found to the land owner. Im not in it to find treasure and make my fortune but i love history and finding old stuff.

Appreciate your time

No really i am a normal decent honest bloke. Im happy to meet face to face, beer to beer or tea to tea wherever you want to. I just want a chance to do this in my on time and on my own without a group of experienced others surrounding me.

Knock on doors, try the local pub, ask family & friends.
Would you let a stranger off the interweb wander around your office/factory/garden/business?

Yes i absolutely agree with you.
This was just by way of a first introduction and of course i wouldnt undertake anything until i had personally met the landowner.
This i hoped was just a quicker way to get introduced to more people from a wider area than i could drive round.

Farmers weekly ran a story on metal detecting last year and listed the benefits to Farmers. Obvioulsy they are going to be wary of bad detectorists and perfectly understandable but there are benefits to them as well such as an extra pair of eyes and ears on their land, reporting sick or injured animals, removing junk and rubbish from their fields and i personally would offer to help out sometime if they wanted someone. I might be 54 and unfit but i reckon i could drive most machines...
