Looking for Innovative Farmers to test new sensors

Happy to help too. Currently using wireless grainstore sensors here for temperature a little similar to Clive's system.

Another system I'd be interested in if it's possible is a wireless linked PIR camera. Sensor detects movement, camera takes photo, photo emailed via wifi to PC. A bit like 3G trail cameras, but able to operate FREE via wifi.

Good stuff, what system are you currently using to monitor the grain store out of interest?

We do already have wireless PIR albeit not linked up to a camera, we are letting the humans take the action based on the data we can provide. Automation based on the data is a logical next step but not our focus yet.

What is it you are needing to take pictures of? We do have a use case at the moment in agriculture storage facility monitoring rat traps for action so they dont have a chance to escape or rot.

Is there one thing that you have always wanted to monitor but never been able to effectively? It would be great to work on a problem like that as we have the flexibility to plug basically any sensor in and make it wireless on scale.

I'm using a bit of a home-made system, with temperature sensors connected to wifi.

The pictures was almost exactly the same as the system you mention - monitoring for vermin activity around and about. Movable sensors (e.g. magnetised) enables different areas to be monitored from time to time, wifi makes it mobile...and FREE (which is important so I don't get charged 35p per message of a leaf blowing around!), and also means that you don't need to keep remembering to download from a memory card every so often. You get real-time updates as such so can keep on top of a problem before it becomes a larger problem.

Keep up the good work - I'm sure there's a market for what you're trying to do.

Milk tank temperature to mobile?

yes, that would be doable, you can see the data on anything with an internet connection, we provide a web based dashboard which you can securely access to get the real time info from any of the sensors you have hooked up.

as an example of the dashboard which i just screen shot'd from my phone.

Sorry to interject slightly off-topic but you can get a camera like a Hikvision Wifi one. With it you can do a number of things, but line crossing and movement detection are certainly possible. Set it up to send an email on detection and you get a (FREE!) email within a couple of seconds of a detection event. With some of them, you can also hard wire alternate sensors (alarm). I have Hikvision CCTV set up at my property and if someone (person, thing, vehicle, sheep whatever) crosses a line in the drive I defined on the camera, I get an email with 3 pictures taken a couple of seconds apart. If its something I need to take care of, then I can do so immediately. This would accomplish the same as what you're thinking of I believe?

I love all things to do with sensors, currently using Z-wave to automate and manage my holiday cottage remotely. A wireless infra-red beam is on my list but the prices seem on the steep side for ones that can do something useful - like trigger an alarm input on crossing for instance. That has all sorts of practical applications as well I would have thought.

Sounds exactly like it...I'm assuming that's mains power with wifi, rather than battery? Do you have a link/price please?

Hi @Steevo

Try THIS. Its one of a number of examples available that would do the job for you, against a variety of budgets. My suggestion would be to ring Eric on the number in the advert and have a discussion as to your exact requirements. They're very knowledgeable, importantly a supplier of UK not "grey" Hikvision and he usually will knock a few quid off if you ask nicely.
