Even pointers on how to get permissions the metal detecting forums will tell you to knock on doors but I'm reluctant to do that. And I'm sure farmers don't want their doors being banged on.any info would be great

That's in the republic u need a licence for archeological excavations. I live quite close to the border and do not use a metal detector there. Very confusing laws there the government got their fingers burnt years ago and now it's over regulated. Everything belongs to the state now regardless of land owners or finder. Not to mention I wouldn't be carrying out archeological excavations. Just a micro shovel for me . Bit of a hobby I've taken up. Understandable y farmers wouldn't want ppl in the fields. Happy to speak to any farmer about specific fields or watever dogs and donts

Go and knock on the door after some Googling to find the owners name. "Hello Mr Smith......can I do some detecting on that stubble field over there?".
Remember you are asking for access to their home, factory, office & garden all rolled into one. (y)

Thanks for the info. I was reluctant to knock on doors but I think I will giv it a go. Tried other avenues with no success wanted ads and social media etc... going to have to bite the bullet and do it.

Hi, I would spend a day driving round looking for farmers at the field and chance my arm then, have you had any success with permissions? I'm also from Derry and looking for land not to long at this hobby, it didn't occur to me upon buying my detector I would have to secure permissions lol got insured with the NCMD to help my chances

Just got a we starter machine, Garrett 300i. Looking to put a Nel tornado coil on soon though. Good machine all the same. What about you? Yeah it is alright, finding who owns the land is the main problem. I have some permission down around boomhall under the new bridge too but I was hitting alot of trash, I dug 65 cans one day lol got 3 silver coins though and a few other oldies the guys down there are very civil they would let anyone work away down there.

Yes I've been down there also and got a few musket balls. I've since found out the land belongs to the concil and is in dispute. So be careful down there.i havent been down since just encase
