The only source would be a dairy herd or auction mart that sells dairy-cross calves. But a dairy farmer that uses a shorthorn bull will probably be doing so to fill a particular demand for the heifers to be reared to become suckler cows. There is no doubt that a Shorthorn x Friesian or Ayrshire makes an ideal suckler cow. But a Shorthorn x Holstein would probably be a bad as any other Beef x out of a Holstein. So at best, you would be left with the bull calves. And maybe the new owners of Morrison's won't want to remain beholden to Prince Charles. PS, When Morissons took over the tenancy of Dumfries-House farm, they were instructed by Prince Charles ( the Landlord or one of the trustees????) to keep traditional breeds. The only reasonably prospective breed still not in a scheme was the Beef Shorthorn. So they had to make the best of it.
