Looking for work experience!

I'm a mature student applying for Veterinary medicine this October. I would really love to get some experience on a dairy farm before I apply! I have my own small sheep farm, but don't have much experience with cows. I'm based in Oxfordshire and would be looking for at least 2 weeks at somewhere in the area or not too far. 😊

It might be worth asking your local farm vet practice if they have any clients who would be willing to take you on.

You will want to have way way more than 2 weeks work experience. Do not do the bare minimum as many school leavers will have done. You need to demonstrate your commitment to the profession in the interview. It is a highly competitive course of study to enter. Do not assume that just because you are a mature student they will take you.

It may be worth asking vets if they will let you shadow or work with their vet technicians. They always appreciate a new set of hands and you will get a lot of opportunities to do the routine livestock tasks, tagging, disbudding, vaccinations and the like with them. You will not get the chance to do much of this in small animal work.
