At least someone somewhere is listening and let's hope that the devil is not in the detail. Nobody has ever been able to tell me (bearing in mind that manure has been spread for generations in the autumn) how many species we have wiped out or how many humans we have affected in a serious way.

I just hope it's not one of those things were they say yes you can do it but then introduce so many rules around doing it, it becomes a non starter.
Yeah, the word "nuanced" in there is a worry. Still, it sounds like better news on the whole. Though quite why we need idiots to come up with staggeringly stupid rules that then have to be fought against I have no idea.

Watch the second part of the EFRA parliamentary committee meeting last Tuesday. The EA speakers. They were very clear. Bulky manures ok. Poultry manure and slurry problem. The spokesman for the water companies told it straight! Cannot put sewage sludge to land in autumn get ready for us to spend billions on incinerators which will add to your constituents water bill. Your call Mr Parish and the politicians of all political persuasion.

I think 150,000ha receives biosolids each year in a country that grows 600,000+ha of oil seed rape... Spreading ahead of ORS is still permitted under the rules is it not? Even if perhaps half the growers are unwilling to receive cheap nutrients or their ground is unsuitable... is there really any great need to incinerate it? It is not more a question of the hassle factor and extra testing and logistic costs for the Biosolid distributors having to work with those growers with a few scattered 10ac fields of OSR not just going in and applying wholesale to 500Ac blocks of ORS/Wheat ground?

It's a bugger when we as an industry have to hang on to the coat tails of the water companies, who have (they said) just three days storage.

The devil will be in the detail, and presently, if 'dirty water' goes into tank, then it becomes 'slurry'.

The whole committee proceedings is a long watch. It has taken me quite a time.

Generally it restored my faith in Government, the Chair (Neil Parrish mp) knew and knows his stuff and is clearly a clever chap too. All round it looks like common sense will win through, we just want to have the information stated clearly to us sons of the soil in terms that we can understand.

Defra are now chairng the committee that will bring forward the new guidance which we are assured will be out by 'early spring' Could someone at Defra (maybe our hero @Janet Hughes Defra ) could ensure that it comes on here as well as where they might send it otherwise?

A total contrast to the position farmers find themselves in, how do we pass increased costs on
