Nowt to do with me guv. Mervyn King was Governor of the BoE from 2003 to 2013 and presided over the start of the current mess. Him and his mates around the world created the thinking that has brought the world to this moment in time. Now it’s bad luck and mistakes in the last couple of years that’s caused the problems and definitely nowt to do with him. Nowt to do with all that money printing and absurd interest rate policy for all those years before and after 2008. Unreal.

And help those that don’t have money, and no idea how to manage it, spend way more than they should have , and left them in very precarious financial positions now interest rates are rising. And because so many people were spending money they didn’t have, inflation has taken off far quicker than would have happened if we had maintained interest rates at a more sensible level.

It is the fault of the ruling classes that we got to a position where a despot crossing a border leads to misery and chaos here.

Putin’s aim isn’t to enlarge Russia as such; the aim IS this chaos and he can continue as long as he wants. Already inflation and cost of living crisis, next year real famine in poorer countries, mass displacement of peoples, and growing Russian influence in the world as he supplies food particularly to poorer countries.

I don’t really understand global economics at all, they mystify me.

But I would, at the very least, like my Bank of England governor to have a bit of an idea.
Economics seems to be the "science" of fully understanding how money flows through society from bottom to top while totally ignoring any consequences that don't suit "economic theory".

It's about as robust a "science" as Nutritional Epidemiology, another branch of academia that claim to know everying about their subject solely because they ignore every occasion that the facts don't fit their narrative

They’re both right up there with astrology.

Approach for far too long at government and personal level.

Personal financial management should be taught in schools, interest rates should have been split to into business and domestic and people in London should stop thinking they know all the answers (not that I even know the questions! ).

This feels like it could be the '70s again. Our hatches are well and truly battened down!

Personally I would move Parliament to somewhere like Birmingham, put house of Lords 100 miles away from that - Leeds, York, Lincoln...

I'd have Parliament on one side of town and civil service the other (so they have to travel through reality to see each other).

I'd halve the number of MP's and civil servants and finally, write a constitution which sets out their duties to the public not their parties or themselves with a cut down, realistic set of responsibilities.

To be fair, the current politico and civil service would hsit themselves but it would cause the cleanout that we so badly need and deserve.

I’m certainly getting a feeling of deja vu. In the livestock side of things the similarities to the seventies are scary.
