It’s a great shame they got rid of the hgv farmers tax band making using lorry’s on farm more expensive

It’s still completely different though, they behave differently, handle differently, turn differently and is about ten times harder than it looks intill you get the hang of it!!

Government are subsidising, sometimes 100% the cost of getting your licence for anyone under a certain age who is out of work.
Think that may be just around here.
cos we are in a deprived area :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

A local haulage firm owner that I am very friendly with got cornered by his 7 drivers last Friday, all wanted another 8k a year to stay.. When the lorry's return home this evening it's game over.. today is his last day as a haulier.

Every one of his driver's has spent the week trying to get him to reconsider as they like working for him and the conditions.. they want the better money that another firm is offering but don't actually want to work for them. A good reminder on wishful thinking.

8k was just greedy I bet the instigator of that little game is not popular now .

I would say so,
I have to applaud the owner as he has called their bluff perfectly. What they wouldn't have realised is that he has been thinking about quitting for a while now and they just gave him the just cause to do so.
Some of the work he was doing was very marginal at best and was really just doing it to keep some of the lads in work.

Any idea what that was? I need to get my trailer test done. Ridiculous considering I've been driving tractors and trailers for years
If you need it, I'd get an application in for a lesson or two and a test. PM me if you want a recommendation for an instructor who covers your patch

Do I feel sorry for the firms that can't get drivers? Do I FECK! They weren't crying at the last EU accession when the age lower limit for an LGV licence had to be reduced from 21 to 18 to accommodate those with a tractor and trailer licence from God knows where, who came over to fill the seats vacated by UK drivers, not prepared to work for less. Or those who felt that their previous years of experience should excuse them from having to spend a week in a classroom, every five years ( often at their own expense) , just to keep their jobs. Or even those who knew they couldn't legally comply with the EU bulls!it WTD and either retired or found something considerably less stressful to do with their time.
And breath naturally

Aye hgv drivers is getting in short supply,
I know 3 that have left their jobs to drive elsewhere in the last 2 weeks,
All of them on over £120 a week at their new jobs,
Farmers moan they cannot get staff, in the haulage business at moment its keeping hold of them,
I heard this morning some drivers ask for more pay, the boss said no, but would offer a bonus of £20 a day for working, boss told me if he put up the wages he would never get them back down, and no bonus when not there on holiday or sick, but if it turns in a year or two, and their is plenty of drivers, he can stop the bonus
