Lorry driver shortage

How when i believe the lorries are partioned in 5t compartments? They cant use up the leftover space in my compartment!
Well believe your wrong, there is hardly 2 Wagons the same for box sizes, and many can shift doors Back or forward a hole to make different size boxes,
Like I said sometimes you have to make the drops fit the lorry,
And if you order 10 tonne, and only get 4 delivered, that 4 will be at 10 rate, it could be they only had 4 tonne of space left on that lorry, and in that area on that day,
However the firm should drop off the balance in a day or so,.
Question is, have you ever run out because of late delivery ?

Also the mill may not have made the full order. We regularly leave light as there isn't enough made, or the first 2 or 3 drops are loaded heavy so you don't have capacity for the last drop.

Tbh i think six wheeler bulker blower lorries are all the same and there is no way of altering onboard bin sizes as they are on a one hook latch per bay . Returning in a few days with the shortfall is laughable, you end up being a few ton short but have to order a min of 5t or go without and hence my post that it causes extra journeys for already stretched workforce. I do agree that feed seems to be made just in time so sometimes there isnt enough to go around.

Last 6 wheeler I drove had 4 different sized bins and filling all of them would've put it overweight so there were always compromises to be made.

The hook latches that you see down the side are nothing to go by, as I have seen bulk bodies with 6 latches, but only 3 doors to make 4 compartments.
This is to try and make the body more viable and flexible in loading format, and can give many different combinations of box sizes, the fixed door system is very outdated with the advent of plank (twin wall smooth sided stronger bodies), and most are now all moving doors within the body.
OK let's go with your assumption of 5 tonne boxes, but rolls, nuts, pellets and blend are different by volume per tonne, same with wheat, barley and oats, so the 5 tonne box is not a 5 tonne box, it's ex amount cubic meters, and load accordingly,
The other things to consider is axle weights, say a 6 wheeler as you mention, can carry around 15 tonne, ie, if you drop 4 tonne out of back box, and next compartment has 3 tonne in it, so that is all you can let back after your 1st drop, yet you have 2 x 4 tonne drops in the front half of the body, so the body now has 8 tonne in front half, and 3 tonne in back half. But the lorry has 1 axle on the front, and 2 at the back, this will probably mean the front axle is over loaded, so it would be better to do the load the other way round to keep axle weights right, but there is 12 tonne of wheat to collect at a farm for a shooting estate right next to your last drop, so if did it the other way round, would mean your no where near the collection point, or it could be that you had to go a certain way for various reasons, either timed delivery due to farmer laying concrete, or has to be there as delivery point is into a trailer/ tote bags, road is going to be closed, or there silaging and where lorry sits to unload is holding the job up, TB testing on farm and lots of stock movements etc, etc.
Also it could be the original or driver of lorry that was delivering the feed, has had problems, ie, called in sick, flat tyre, held up on a farm, bust hydraulic pipe, etc,
Therefore they put what they can on the nearest available lorry for delivery in that area.
Life is never that simple, if it was, then feed firms would have standard size lorries, and farmers would take a standard size load, and no need for internal doors

Similar at the Co-ops around here but I think it is a Co-op problem more than anything because all the other shops are ok.
Missus went shopping for someone today in local Co-op.
Where's all the fish and yoghurts?
Oh yeah, they were delivered by an unchilled truck and have all had to be binned. Not just us, loads of branches the same.
So you will have more tomorrow then?
Don't think so, sounds like it will be a week or more now.

I'd say it was as much of a brain cell shortage as a driver shortage. I will give the benefit of the doubt and say it must have been the logistics manager at fault for sending wrong truck but there are some dumbass drivers out there that just might forget to turn the fridge unit on.
