Lorry driver shortage

A local haulage firm owner that I am very friendly with got cornered by his 7 drivers last Friday, all wanted another 8k a year to stay.. When the lorry's return home this evening it's game over.. today is his last day as a haulier.

Every one of his driver's has spent the week trying to get him to reconsider as they like working for him and the conditions.. they want the better money that another firm is offering but don't actually want to work for them. A good reminder on wishful thinking.

That sounds like that haulier owner is stubborn, good on the drivers imo, they like working for the guy but want better pay to match other companies.

At least they asked and didn't just leave.

My thought when I read that the first time was sounds to me like the guy has been wanting out of haulage and this is exactly the catalyst he’s been looking for , reading on I was bang on the money ! I don’t blame him one bit, small time haulage must be a bloody nightmare .

Education is never a waste , those who say it is are generally thicko`s.

" Graduate Labour Market Statistics show that, in 2017, English-domiciled graduates and postgraduates had higher employment rates than non-graduates and the average, working age graduate earned £10,000 per year more than the average non-graduate."
I’m sure those are tricky dickey numbers like they use over here. They compare college graduates with every other person working in every other job. Completely ignore apprenticeships and tech degrees, those all get lumped together with everything else.

Best thing they could scrap (or modify) would be the driver CPC - What a waste of driving time .....
I wouldn't be in favour of scraping the cpc but it does need changed. The standard of teaching is too low on many courses and being able to sit the same course every time devalues it further.
I've been on courses that everyone learnt something and courses that will have saved lives, I've also been on employer proved courses that were a complete waste of time.
