Am I right in understanding you don’t have to do reversing on hgv test now?

Not during the test, it will be assessed by another party. Not quite sure how that will work but it will make the tests a lot quicker.

Was told today that if you passed your car test before 1997 then you automatically get grandfather rights to a hgv class 2.
Does anyone know if this is true.
Google seems to suggest it is.

No, the grandfather rights are to 7.5 ton rigid - C1 in the current system, similar to the old Class 3. Class 2 is over 7.5 ton rigid & is class C, Class 1 being CE. The definitive answer though is what categories are on the licence along with the restriction codes as the towing rules are slightly different.

Class 3 was a 2 axle rigid above 7.5t class 2 was any rigid above that and class 1 artics. You could go direct to class one and tow any trailer you wanted to behind a car. Before the world went mad.

I wonder if they'll put the 10.25t gross weight back on the B+e like we had before. Where you could tow a trailer over 750kg behind a 7.5t lorry. Can still do it with a minibus/Small coach but not a lorry anymore

B is unlikely to be relaxed to 7.5t prime. C1E gives 7.5t prime with over 750kg trailer up to 12t train unless there's a code 107 restriction to 8,250kg.

Reminds me of when I did my LGV training through a school run by a bus company. My trainer said "buses aren't allowed to reverse" So I asked "what happens when two buses meet on a narrow road?"

Annoys me when you hear of these driver shortages and yet you order bulk feed for example and they bring loads which are 1-3 tons short, which means you need extra deliveries . Multiply those extra journeys across just us farmers and it causes thousands of extra trips.
