Loss adjusters

Does anyone have trouble with them, or is it just us ?
We have had contractors doing some repair work for us under insurance. Every step of the job has had to be cleared by the loss adjuster before work is carried out. There is probably a couple of hours work needed to finish the job off, which has been ongoing since October last year, the actual work involved took two days. Contractors have been waiting a month or so to get authorisation from the loss adjustor to make a site visit. We have chased NFU mutual, the loss adjustor who never replies and the contractors. Not the sort of job I could do myself (needs breathing apparatus).

NFU Mutual and then probably by us in an increase in our premiums next year. :(
Disappointing....

I am also with NFUM, and have got on really well with loss adjustor allocated to my claim after Storm Arwen, for barn damage. Crawfords I believe.... ???

If i even hear a mention of DAS being involved in a claim, I crank up the technique and start sending lots of emailsm and calling Branch. BUT, I am not an NFU member now....

Sorry I cannot be of more support @Paddington

Renewed my insurance last year a week before it expired, loss adjuster came out three days before it expired. Two days before it expired my premium was increased by 10%, so they can get a shift on if money is involved.

Loss adjusters, bunch of to**ers working for a percentage. Had a flood a few years ago, Insurers sent out the loss adjusters to assist. Assist ? next thing we had their favoured company coming out to quote, basically wanted to close half the site down for 3 months, gut the place and rebuild. Contacted insurers and struck deal that they would pay for expenses to date plus redecorating costs. Decorator charged £1500 including doing two rooms that never got flooded !!! Reckoned loss adjusters scheme would have been £20k minimum.

Had Crawfords here on an NFU claim 5-6 years ago and they were brilliant! Had another smaller one a month ago and they were less helpful to start, but once I spoke to my branch insurance off they pulled some strings and suddenly it’s all going very smoothly again.

Have you had any dealings with them in the past @Doing it for the kids ?
too many! probably about 5 over the last 8 yrs.

generally they are just about OK but the last one on a subsidence claim was appalling. ended up cc'ing in emails to high up NFU. they got relieved of duty and they brought in another team who were much better.

You just have to shout loudly and get angry, not something I like doing. luckily for me the local agent was totally behind me, it just took time.

half the trouble was the young inexperienced surveys with no practical knowledge who don't like being caught out and pointed out the obvious.

We had massive issues with a NFU loss adjuster after a grain dryer fire. It prompted us to get other quotes the next year and thank god we did as it halved our cost, that was 6 years ago and the saving would now add up to a 6 fingered amount !

loss adjusters of F&M who we moved to and now Acres our current insurance co have been very easy / professional to deal with on claims we have had

@Nigel Wellings Told me at last renewal you can pay a small premium to pay for your own loss adjusters who will work on your behalf rather than letting the insurance use theirs (who obviously works in their interest). I think we took the extra cover as it wasn’t much and seemed a good idea .

maybe Nigel could explain this better than me ?

We weren't sure whether or not we were covered for the work needed. We assumed loss adjusters dealt with issues like ours most days, in hindsight we should have been more pushy, pointing out every bit of work that needed doing.

I was and still am, being very proactive with both the adjustor and the surveyor. The latter had never seen a dutch barn before I reckon...

Seems to have paid dividends from my perspective..... so far. Got a sum agreed, now just finding tradesmen to carry out the work is the hard part.

You can also ask to have a different firm to deal with. I would never have Cunningham Lindsey anywhere near my place. Just checked, and they were taken over in 2017! Now owned by Sedgwick. They will never be here in any of their guises.
