Low loader Floor

The floor on my low loader is rotten. Couldn’t believe how bad it was until lumps of the floor started to fall onto the road when moving the digger. The floor is like crumbs.
Some people say I need to use hard wood again and other say to go and get yourself normal timber from the local hardware store and just treat it yourself as it’s cheaper and the hardwood timber won’t last that much longer anyhow and the price of the stuff isn’t justified if you can find it.

What should I do? Any point in sheeting the floor afterwards with steel and throw some rubber belts down on it when transporting the digger?

regarding rubber belting - what are people's opinions please? Do you just use them for steel tracks up steel ramps or do you use them on the bed to protect timbers? I suggested the latter to my son who is concerned that the digger will be liable to slide off them if even slightly damp

Ive only used them on the the ramp to the point where the bed starts. Not sure how liable the load would be to moving if it was on the bed. I only used to do the ramps as i rolled them up after and are a fair weight to hump around if they was the length of the trailer

Softwood is ok to use and better grip than hardwood too, proper hardwood is very slippy when wet. Softwood needs to be thicker at least 40mm thick
My trailer is steel floor with rubber matting bolted on each side where digger sits and last trailer was softwood floor with rubber too and no probs. It’s getting up the ramps where accidents can happen
