so just to update I had another quick look this evening, the rotar is indeed hydraulic and I did get it going however it seems to be in a bit of a loop where it goes forward a bit and then go backwards, must be some unblocking thing?

It certainly can be reversed on mine. I have the controls in the first pics I posted so not sure how it works with your controls.

so there may be something up with it, when i turn on rotar and floor it seems to alternate between going forwrd and backwards and then just stops and the screen on the chopper itself shows E for error

You need to have the pto running when putting it in gear.
It prevents blockages.

so its a bit like the floor tries to go forward and cant and just goes into reverse for a bit then tried to go forwrd again, cant and goes back into reverse, must be a blockage although it goes backwards ok
thats with pto on as well

We don't have a lucas like yours but how far is the bed jiggering about? Is it a hydraulic issue or mechanical like something is jamming? Do you have enough hydraulic oil flow..... especially the return?

hard to know really, I have only been spenbding a few mins at a time looking at it, hopeffully at weekend take a better look, floor seems tight, machine hasnt done much work i would think but probably idle a while, floor goes backward ok but doesnt seem to be going forward, its on 6910 jd so suppose hydraulics wouldnt be as fast as new tractors but should be ok?
was surprised how heavy she is on the linkage

I don't know why but I thought it was a telehandler mounted machine You had. We have a castor with pto fan and chopper rotor, only hydraulic bed. The stop start of the bed can wear the tits on the hydraulic couplings, mostly the return. This sort of stalls the bed from working correctly. Change the tit for a new one and usually the problem goes away. I was also recently told that the hydraulic filter amounted on the machine can cause erratic controls if it is blocked/damaged , don't know if yours has one though.

After trying other suggestions above,
is the pto sensor at fault? Although I'd expect it to not move at all and go straight to "E" on the display. I had an issue with mine when the sensor came loose and dropped enough to wear on the pto drive.
Will it continually feed if using the "force" option?
Alternatively you could speak to the workshop at Halse's, there's not much they don't know about them.

will take a look at that, I was trying to get it to force forward but didnt seem to be doing it
I might give htem a shout and ask cheers

have had a better look this morning, did speak to the lads in Halse who were helpful, so the sensor at the side of the machine seems to be lighting up fine but the one at the back of the pto doesnt seem to light up, cable seems intact so I guess it just a caase of replacing that sensor hopefully

so another update, got new sensor for pto but it still didnt light up,did some checks liked moved the working sensor from the rotar down to pto but nothing however actually the new and the old sensor would work on the rotor so its not sensor, took off cover off controller and followed cables , everything is connected but whether they are in the right jumper ports I cant say, there are 3 wires from each sensor, brown , black and blue, I swapped the pto sensor cables into the slots where the rotar cables were and it lights up, then I put cables from both sensors into the the 3 jumpers where the rotar was originally and they both light up but no change in behavior , will have to get cabling sorted somehow

@gone up the hill ..... wondered how you got on? I know it was a while ago now but we're looking at doing the same job to ours.
so it was simple enough in the end, 2 sensors, one on rotor and one on pto, the pto one wouldnt light up, discovered the sensor was actually ok though as it worked on the rotar.. next went to the electronic boards behind the display, each sensor has 3 wires which are connected to various jumpers, discovered that when the non working sensor was wired onto same jumpers as working sensor it lit up, however it still didnt work as i presume it just saw it as one sensor not two, then by process of elimination i discovered the earth wire of the non working sensor was the issue, so once the earth wire of the non working sensor was connected to same jumper as earth of working working sensor and the other two wires (live and signal) were put back in original position it seemed to do the trick
hope that makes some sense?

Thanks. A useful post to have in store ready for any issues……

I was asking the OP about his bed chain really though ;)
