Lucas straw chopper

Hi all. We've had a lucas trailed straw chopper for 12 months now. Worked a dream mostly however recently been having trouble with it pulling lots of straw through at once and therefore ending up with more straw than required in a pen. Blades were well worn so put a whole new set in thinking this would solve the problem but it's still happening. Anyone else had this? Any reasons/suggestions? Many thanks

Different straw?
I was using s barley square bales and they pull straw through much worse than wheat or oats.

Hay mind!😡😡
We always use barley straw but this is a bit longer than previous stuff so I did wonder if that's the reason.

We tried putting dry bales through it, gave up kept blocking the spout every 2 minutes

Bale shredders are an art to drive well. In fact I don’t think anyone can use them without the odd hick up. Different straw, dense or aft bales, wet or dry affects the performance hugely. Having been involved with 4 different brands over the last 30 odd years I have the scars. That said when you know the limits blockages should be few and far between.

Haha yes they are certainly tricky at times. Very rare I get blocked with straw it's just the issue of it pulling through to much at times but it sounds like it's just one of those things. Sometimes I can damage limitations by stopping the bed quickly if I can tell it's about to drag a big lump in. But there's not alot you can do
