Lucerne Roots organic matter

We have just ploughed a five year old lucerne ley in and I am amazed at the amount of roots, they probably go down 20', so hopefully will have done a great job breaking up the chalk on this shallow ground. It just gets better and better.

As an aside I realise that I am posting a picture of ploughing on a DD forum. DD people seem more switched on with the soil etc, but would there be a case for Clive to put a Biological farming section up, or perhaps a BASE section which might cover it. I asked Blue for a 'Fertility Farming' section several years ago, but as usual was ignored. At least Clive puts his head above the parapet on here, long may it continue!

Maybe the DD forum would be better named as such ? open to suggestions but don't want too many sub forums as they water down content if not careful

a post and picture as above is perfectly fine in this section despite the plough as it's relevant to the subject

intresting you saying about OM in alfalfa tends to be a bit low in hay paddocks .. know guys striping sowing it alfalfa in one row cocksfoot in the others tend to find the grasses stop wind blow around the crowns and if mob grazed leave a better litter mass on the top ..

one thing looking at is putting down pure alfalfa then in the 2-3 year oversow grass feel if sowen at the same time the alfalfa get's hammered and dose not full get going
