Jeez that’s a bit hasty you know it wasn’t passed to the boss until he was 65 and the old man died in his 90sReading some threads on here, that won’t be until he’s in his 50s
Per gun ,depends on how many bird day it is and whether there was some good shooting or not.Your tight!
Last I heard it was 3 figures at least
When I started farming I sold a pen of ewe lambs, I went to give some luck to the buyer, however I couldn't get the coins out of my pocket at once, " hang on I've got a bit more" says I, "I should think so!" Says she. That killed any chance of me giving luck as long as I'm alive. I was bloody hard up and struggling to stay afloat at the time, and what was probably an off the cuff comment, really cut deep at the time. From a while back :
I’d feel the same and never give luck as a bribe or with any expectationWhen I started farming I sold a pen of ewe lambs, I went to give some luck to the buyer, however I couldn't get the coins out of my pocket at once, " hang on I've got a bit more" says I, "I should think so!" I don't mind if folk want to buy my stock or not, i'm not bribeing them.
Last shoot I was on,as a guest,it was around £200 iirc, some to the loader and some to the keeper. This is a big shoot,on local ones it's usually £30 to £50.Per gun ,depends on how many bird day it is and whether there was some good shooting or not.
If its a £500 per gun day 10% tip is good.
You had to work the system though, one chap used to come buying a few pullets always wanted a 'bit of luck' soon learned to add a bit on to knock it off later.
If its a £2k per gun day then yes, 10% , as Guns on pegs say it`s entirely up to the gun.Last shoot I was on,as a guest,it was around £200 iirc, some to the loader and some to the keeper. This is a big shoot,on local ones it's usually £30 to £50.
Sold a Lim bull in Carlisle once. Bloke wanted to buy him privately the night before for 5000 then run him to 10000 in the ring and have 5000 luck
He's essentially taking £5k out of his own pre-tax income in untraceable cash, also known as tax evasion.Sounds like some sort of tax fiddle. Mates buying bulls/tups for massive money to get the breeders name in the papers so he can charge more from home etc isnt in keeping with the spirit of the job imo but it happens
Auctioneer came round asking what reserves people were setting. Told him about it and he laughed and said " he's a bit of a lad isn't he? ". Wasn't surprised in the slightest so I think it goes on a lot with full knowledgeHe's essentially taking £5k out of his own pre-tax income in untraceable cash, also known as tax evasion.
One dealer used to kiss the luck I gave him. Not seen anyone spit on it.Do they still spit on the luck money, or has COVID stopped that.
Dealers must have so much cash in their pockets every week that it must cover their living expenses.
HMRC are well aware of it, have looked into it quite some time ago and from what I remember took things no further, not sure on their thoughts/reasoning.HMRC must get wise at some point.
