I honestly don’t actually blame the kids they get pushed on and are on equipment they aren’t in my opinion mature enough to be driving obviously there’s good young lads but a lot seem a bit keen with no actual attention to the job the phone thing is just inexcusable though
Absolutely, there's pretty decent science saying that your brain is rapidly developing during your teen years and it causes all sorts of things to happen that you aren't really in control of (anyone who's met a teenager will verify) that have psychological effects.
A child development/psychology lecturer on my secondary teaching training likened being a teenager to having a mental illness.

No way they should be in charge of heavy machinery.

I took my driving test numerous times but only passed it when I was 19 - I just went to pieces in the test before that. Couldn't cope with someone watching, could drive just fine, had been driving about off road for yonks.
It too me until I was much older to realise that it wasn't anything to do with me, it was just because I was young.

problem is you have to draw a line somewhere. Driven from a young age on the farm experienced with a tractor and trailer however don’t have a car trailer license. Who’s safer on the road me or somebody that is permitted due to when they passed there car tear

Neither.
Teenagers are unpredictable for reasons that are out of their control. They should not be operating heavy machinery at all, and certainly not under any kind of pressure.
On farm, it could only lead to them injuring themselves or someone that presumably they have some kind of relationship with (which is bad enough), on the roads it can lead to injuries and deaths of bystanders.

Just remember, tractors only went 30kph 30 years ago. Not 50 like now or 80 if a fast trac. Towing a load in a semi trailer (truck) here you need to be 21 to get a license. 17yr old car driver can not tow a 6x4 trailer here till off there provisional license at 19. So its ridiculous to let 15 yr olds be in charge of 8 tonne tractors towing 25 tonne loads at speed on public roads.

I passed a class F at 16 but none of our tractors could actually manage 30k. The nearly new Ford 6600 just about reached 27k.

The average age of a Spitfire pilot was 20. Not quite the same as ferrying grass but they can often be very good with machinery at that age, I think the problems occur from them not realising they are not immortal.
It's not their immortality that worries me, it's the lack of immortality of those around them! :nailbiting:

If, as an industry, we can't get on top of this then we deserve to be banned from the road the way we are going!

Steady on, how many car, van and HGV accidents were there the same day as that trailer tipped over ?
roads are going to be quiet
