Lungworm

Hi.
How long does lung worm survive on a pasture after cattle have been removed? Have a field which always makes them cough, but giving it a rest now but will need it soon in the next few weeks. Also, someone told me the lung worms can survive in water troughs? Any truth in that?

Anyone know if lungworm infestation can raise body temperature?

There is a cattle vaccine for lungworm.

I think the issue is when cattle without immunity are first exposed to lungworm and once cattle have recovered some of them will still have a low level of lungworm that does not effect them but can infect new cattle.

My understanding is that if calves are exposed at a very early age they will get immunity with few symstoms but if exposed after housing it can effect them badly and result in a high level of worms to infect other cows.

Yes, but can it cause elevated body temperature? I.e. is it indistinguishable from a bacterial pneumonia infection in that regard?
