Machine Servicing

I hate a service charge "amount " gives no indication of time spent or hourly rate.
Accountant does the same, I have asked for a breakdown of times and dates of engagement or other wise it could be jackanory time!

Hope if they didn't use full drums of oils, screenwash etc they left the remainder .

You'd think on servicing they'd be able to do it on a fixed fee.......

Sprayer MOT, Fert spreader test, Telehandler test etc. are all fixed fee.

Even my car service is a fixed fee.

They get fixed time for warranty or insurance work.
It's the rest of us that make up for that time in charges!

Worst thing in my opinion are "consumables" Had a visit to sort out a problem with gps. £12 consumables! Never used any gloves/lubricant sprays, gloves. :scratchhead:

Apparently its company policy.

£24 consumables on a 1200 hour service. We'll be servicing it ourselves once warranty out.

Most trades as soon as on farm plug in all their rechargeable stuff and have a brew.

We generally do, too much involved to service modern kit, and don’t have the time or need the hassle.

With kit under warranty they’ve got you by the balls as well. Just had our Manitous 500 hour service... it was over £900 inc vat!
Sounds about right, dealers sticking big margins on filters as well as heavty hourly charge @70/hr. It,s hard enough paying for this expensive kit, these expensive service charging is just taking the pee. imo

I bought some (standard) HV46 six months ago. Three 25l drums for £93....so £31 each. I didn't know there was such a thing as "high grade".

That said, given they only used 10l it's not really fair to nitpik I guess.

you have ep46 and HV46. HV46 is normally blue and is a poclan spec actually a 10/30 multi grade hyd oil not even a 46 so dont know why manufactors even call it HV46? :scratchhead::ROFLMAO:

Yep! Bad enough that the 5 year comprehensive warranty was £2500, then you have 5 services throughout that period to make it valid. At approx £750+ vat each.

That will go up i,m sure, the 500 hr one is probably the cheapest, I got a horrible feeling a full service on a fendt is 3 to 3.5 grand. Which i will do myself so a 3rd of that.(y)

If the machine runs well with very little problems having been dealer serviced in the 5 years would you still be unhappy with the costs. Like you say the price of machinery is very high so why scrimp on servicing which could cause problems in the future.
No wonder the industry can’t keep good mechanics with all the moaning and groaning.

Actually going down that list the filters are spot on manitou retail price so not been uplifted, just the genuine manitou oil over priced but that could be a variable from manitou thinking about it as i think dealers will get charged different rates for it depending on there location and the volume of oil they are ordering.

The chain spray? no idea whats thats on there for it not needed at all.
Brake cleaner! thats £36 for 25 litres i wouldnt bother booking that out on a service.
Environmental charge well thats fair IMO

whats kind of puzzling is thats neither a 500hr service or a 1000hr in my book?

500hrs is by the book

engine oil and filter
fuel filters
outer air filter
transmission filter
hydraulic return filter
grease up
check lights etc

1000hrs is

all of above plus

inner air filter
hyd breather cap
fuel tank breather cap (if newer style machine)
engine crank case filter if fitted
hyd pilot filter if fitted
axle oils including hubs
Transmission oil
90 deg transfer gearbox oil
cab filters

Why is the dealer going to service better than myself? I would argue i do a better job, for one i drain the engine oil until all the oil comes out, not for a 2 minute drain!!! The only job the dealer needs to do is hook it up to a lap top.

you have had more than a 500hr service there imo.

My guess is the dealer is splitting the services up a bit. so your next 1000hrs service could be much the same labour wise but instead of having axles and hub oil changed you will have transmission oil and filter plus transfer gearbox oil.

I do this my self sometimes with regular customers because sometimes the customer wont let you start work on it till after lunch as they need it for feeding and then come 4pm they start hassling you for it back again! if you need to do a full 1000hr service by the book you run out of time so by splitting it up a bit the machine still gets serviced just some parts of it are out of sink with others, which is fine till you move the machine on or get someone else to start servicing it.

A main dealer service I would hope they have looked at the technical updates/briefings to know what issues have arisen from similar machines and be able to rectify or watch for them. Extended warranty machines this should be sorted before a breakdown?

It’s a bad job if you can’t do a basic oil/filter change, most modern tractors are on 600/1200hr services, the book tells you what all needs done, only once you get up to the higher hours that you might need to get a dealer to do some more technical checks on engine or if it needs laptop for any reason, got 3 tractors and a forklift ready to service in the next couple of weeks and it will all be done in house

CEB ATV is a good friend of mine, top guy and knows his stuff. I would happily buy from him and recommend Charlie!

What absolute nonsense.
