you have ep46 and HV46. HV46 is normally blue and is a poclan spec actually a 10/30 multi grade hyd oil not even a 46 so dont know why manufactors even call it HV46? :scratchhead::ROFLMAO:

Talk about confusing! o_Oo_O

So the hydraulic oil I use in the combine for rams.....and the digger too.....is that HV or EP please? Either way...the stuff I use is never blue.....but is reasonable value for money.

It’s a bad job if you can’t do a basic oil/filter change, most modern tractors are on 600/1200hr services, the book tells you what all needs done, only once you get up to the higher hours that you might need to get a dealer to do some more technical checks on engine or if it needs laptop for any reason, got 3 tractors and a forklift ready to service in the next couple of weeks and it will all be done in house
Great if you have the time!

If it's not blue and just normal clearing colour then it's not high spec poclan.

You right it is confusing every manufactor has a different bloody name for the stuff which is why you must compare the actual specs and not assume all 46 is the same.

Bit like saying all 15w/40 engine oil is the same??‍♂️

We generally do, too much involved to service modern kit, and don’t have the time or need the hassle.

With kit under warranty they’ve got you by the balls as well. Just had our Manitous 500 hour service... it was over £900 inc vat!
Our 737 was £720 including vat for 500 hour service

Isn’t oil all the same anyway?

I thought those numbers were just for show. It all looks the same after all....brown and oily!

1200hr, same as above and back wheel off with the wheel trolley and impact wrench ( easiest way to change the big hyd/trans filter ), change hub oils, air filters get blown out more regular than needed anyway

DIN 51524 part 2 is a standard HM hydraulic oil.
DIN 51524 part 3 is a HV grade, reccomended for hydrostatic drives, wheel motors etc.
Don’t take any notice of the ‘blue’ colour only being a poclain spec !
I can assure you that the oil in the Poclain test rigs at Oundle isn’t blue.

Mines not blue but it’s hv46 for Jcb stuff.

ep is usually extreme pressure for gearboxes and final drives I believe my digger is ep90 oil in final drives as is mower bed

Bob . Was on a mission , one day doing like you , oil draining and doing hubs etc , wife comes with ice cream so we stop to eat it , start filling engine up with oil , then the comment comes and a laugh or two , IS oil meant to be coming out of the bottom , not put bung in when the ice cream come ?

Thank you. Turns out the oil I was referring to was indeed DIN 51524-3.

I bought some (standard) HV46 six months ago. Three 25l drums for £93....so £31 each. I didn't know there was such a thing as "high grade".

That said, given they only used 10l it's not really fair to nitpik I guess.

Do you mind me asking what sort of prices your independent chap charges for what machines and what's included?

Very simply his hourly rate is £35/hour so it doesn’t matter what colour it is. His experience having worked for main dealers is what’s important. He will also say no if he’s not sure so for example he’ll reluctantly look at a sprayer but it’s not his thing. With regards to parts he can get them for us if required but we generally order them ourselves from varying sources. We aren’t bothered about genuine parts either. Our local JD dealer is £75/hour plus travelling etc.
