Machine Warranty

Anybody know the score on servicing a machine to keep the warranty based on manufacturer terms and conditions?

A new implement I've been quoted on is supplied with "2 years warranty (subject to service at end of year 1)".

I've asked the rep what's involved to satisfy this condition but just wondered what would be the TFF collective's opinion on this please.

Our bobcat handler has a 5 year warranty when we purchased it we got the dealer to agree in writing what the terms of the servicing would be to maintain the warranty. We agreed that 500hr services could be done by us with bobcat filters and oils and the 1000hr one would be done by dealer.

However is there not legislation that means if you service something according to the schedule and use genuine parts manufacturers have to honour warranty? Thought this was the case with cars anyway but I could be wrong.

Our last tractor they were happy with us servicing ourselves as long as we could prove it had been, so supplied service parts from main dealer and that was enough.

Now it seems manufacturers have tightened up even more and require units to be serviced absolutely by the book by the main dealer within the warranty hours to maintain the warranty. What can you do 🤷‍♂️

I have just ordered a new JCB telehandler. They were pushing the extended warranty but you had to use them to do the servicing. We normally do an intermediate one ourselves and get an independent mechanic to do the bigger ones so the cost of the extended warranty was a lot more than first appeared.

On the last couple of new purchases once we got the salesman at the kitchen table and were ready to shake his hand we gave him 3 options:-

Include servicing for the warranty period
Supply the parts for us to service it and assure us that warranty would be honoured
Head for the door

On both occasions he choose option 2 and his word was good, despite him now touting a different tractor colour.

There is, called EU block exemption. Dealers will argue differently though i'm sure.

You could argue that for the 1st 12 months of statortory warranty. The extended warranty is a manufacturer supplied product that you purchase, they name their terms. If you don't like them, don't buy the warranty

I'd be wanting the 12mth service included in the purchase price, as the closing sweetener...
Used to work that way when Lely tedder warranty had such a stipulation.

In theory you should be able to service it yourself using genuine parts, proving this can be more tricky would probably need receipt from dealer for parts plus oil .

Surely if its a power shuttle transmission then the clutch packs would need calibrating unless it can be run through a procedure on farm. For my JCB service the parts were more than the labour so not that much of a saving.

Would think it varies a lot with manufacturers ,you would need to read their terms and conditions. Claas seem very fussy about warranty claims more interested in trying to walk away if possible so would have to be dealer serviced.
