Machinery dealership needing a kick in the ar@#

While at the county show at the beginning of August I went into a tractor dealer stand looking for a demo. Currently using their brand, sourced from them so though it would be straight forward.
Palmed off by 3 reps, the fourth reluctantly took my details. I chased them up with a couple of calls before a rep visited the farm and spoke to Dad (who didn’t know about my enquiry). I phoned again to be told “oh I’ve been up to see your father and gave him some brochures”

The brochures were not for the size/series/spec that I had asked for at the show. After more calls chasing them I’ve got a demo 2 months later. However it’s still not series/spec I had asked for, Ive for a basic tractor with 40kph and mechanical cab suspension

How hard is it to get a 4 cylinder 120hp tractor with 50kph, cab and axle suspension and front links for a demo?

The salesman has got a lot of work to do if he is going to get a sale!

Had a 530 loadall in a dealers workshop a few yr ago, it ended up a can of worms that was gonna cost as much to fix as it was worth. Had a chat with sales and asked them if they could find a tidy second hand one below 4000hrs. That was November........ Called every week or two to remind them. By the end of March I'd bought one from a different dealer. Got a phonecall in APRIL, that would be 6 months after initial enquiry, to say they'd got a 6000hr TM 300 or something and would they just bring it out for a look. Nice one lads.

I wouldn't expect anything less
They have no interest in repeat sales, a new customer would have a better chance.
Can't see the sense in it, arrogant ............

But don't be going round kicking them ................

Find an ex fleet hire tractor, year old, less than a 1000 hours, and save yourself 20 - 30% off the discounted price.
Buy it through another dealership.

When your rep asks why you bought it elsewhere, explain that he wasn’t doing what you’d asked him to do.

I’ve a lovely pair of ex fleet hire tractors parked in the shed, and a rep who still won’t listen

That is a good option to have.
One thing I have stressed is that it’s the features of a certain series that I’m wanting to trial rather than a new tractor. I know that they have a 2/3 year old machine 3000hours ish with the exact spec I’m looking for. Would of been happy to have had that.

Imagine going into a LR garage looking to buy a Range Rover but getting a test drive of a 110 defender. That’s basically what I’m getting at.

it's machinery dealers all over. I approached 7 or 8 last autumn with a wad of money burning a hole in my pocket wanting to buy a used tractor. at least 3 of them still haven't got back to me.

Only one dealer truly pulled his finger out, and sold me a tractor within 24 hours of me bumbling into there yard having never been there before ever.

On the flip side (and not saying that's the case here)
Dealers must get dozens of enquiries for a demo tractor. If they honoured every enquiry, half the country would get farmed with free tractors. And maybe 10% if those demos would lead to a sale

@Grassman has reseeded half his Farm with a direct grass drill on demo:whistle::D
Do you have anything available for a demo from the showroom? Something that would give the driver the gift would be good!
But not in blue.

Some dealers are better than others.

Was in a MF dealer’s yard a couple of months ago and never seen as many unprepared and terribly presented tractors.

Anything over 2 to 5 years old were in an awful state, I appreciate they are only trade in’s but they are still taking up yard space - and tying up money, how hard would it be to blow up the feckin’ tyres and hose the oil and grass off?

Perhaps start them and shuffle them about occasionally? Oh that’s right. Can’t be ar$ed.

In 30 years of actively farming i've only ever had a new demo machine on our farm once. That was a baler in 2004We didn't buy it. i believe it's actually the only new demo machine we've ever had here!

only other time was when we had 2 used tractors on trial at the same time from the local dealer. We had already agreed to buy one of them but wanted to try both before deciding which one.

Did have a machinery rep back in spring tell me a chap had asked them to give him a haybob on demo:eek:

ah, this makes me laugh......

Complain when the rep doesn't bother, but maybe last time he did you didn't bother with him......works both ways, and yes some reps are bloody useless.....hence why a mate has changed 2 tractors and the first rep still ain't come back on a price for a new 6090......lol

Before ye start iv seen it been there etc, even today took a call for a sprayer I priced with someone 3 years ago!

Maybe yes there needs to be more transparency in things....but I have never seen a demo tractor at 120hp full spec with what you are looking for A friend has been trying for a while to get one in red/green/blue and keeps getting palmed off.

Some background, telehandler, tractor, straw blower, grass harrow, among others, all bought from this dealership. Our current tractor was a cancelled order, which we were offered as a demo and subsequently bought.

I don’t think that I should be classed as a tyre kicker. Also stressing that it’s the certain features that I’m wanting to trial rather than expect them to have a small hp, high spec demo machine I would be happy to use a 2nd hand/trade in machine.
