100 acres sheep,

used to have loads of shite between 2 farms but ones rents out no so just left with 100 acres, and it all went at a dispersal so started fresh

mf 6465 2007 67** hours
jcb 526 (from QF its a cracking machine too!) 2006 79** hours

plenty of implements just get contractor for bailing & wrapping

had to do brakes and fuel pump on mf recently but when i look at fendt depreciation values per hour in the other thread it makes me feel much better about my old massey, relatively its cost nothing to own in 2 year as we got it cheap and they have gone up loads!

We have around 260 acres of arable that we farm 'inhouse' plus some grass. We've got a 6930 with cvt a 6530 and a 6310SE John Deere, the 6930 goes on a 5f Lemken plough, does some round baling, hedgetrimming etc, the 6530 on a 3m powerharrow/drill combi, muck trailers, corn cart, the 6310 does lighter jobs and sits on a 21m knight trailed sprayer all summer, actually probably clocks up as many hours as the rest.

Plenty of people will roll up here and say thats too much and it is, but we have pigs and poultry as well, which means some kind of tractors are needed, we drive them ourselves so they might as well be nice ones! Those days when you make some hay, are combining etc that third tractor is extremely useful (each year I think we should offload the 6310 while it still has some value, each year we keep it!) and this level of equipment means we can be livestock farmers in the morning and arable farmers in the afternoons! Tractors are kept to about 5000 hours which is approximately 10 years.

Do what suits you and allows you to turn a profit.

Wow 5 years on.

Next year will be 600ac arable plus 50 grass of which about 90ac let for spuds, pigs have gone, poultry numbers have increased from 12k to 44k layers.

Still got the 6930 and the 6310, combi drill still in the back of a shed but almost all drilling done now by a 3 metre Claydon, we needed to save time over the old plough /combi method, especially now we're using cover crops etc.

6530 went about four years ago to be replaced by a Maxxum 130cvx, added a Deutz 6185 this spring, so up to 4 tractors, will take a decision on selling one at the end of the year based on hours worked, a lot cheaper to hang on to one rather than sell one, realise we needed it and try and buy one back.

1989 Dominator combine still going though on the lookout for good used replacement.

Sprayer has been changed for a 24 metre John Deere 824, 2004 model so well used but in decent nick.

Still got the plough to get beet land ready, added a 4 metre rebuilt Kuhn power harrow to speed that job up.

Changed a 32.6 Merlo for its 33.7 equivalent, a much better machine, added a K Two ejector trailer to be able to store poultry muck under a low roofed old cow shed.

Added an 8 metre set of Dalbo rolls for a tired old 6 metre set. Also a 3 metre Kongskilde Delta cultivator.

Still got 2009 Claas round baler, does about 1k bales a year for a straw merchant.

Assorted other practically worthless kit such as an old Stanhay beet drill, amazone fert spreader, Kongskilde sucker blower, assorted telehandler attachments, straw trailer, grain trailers etc etc.

Should probably stop changing kit and consolidate for a bit?!

As an aside, were you doing/trying a bit of drilling yesterday? On my trip back from holme hale I spied a shiny deutz and claydon parked up. Can't be many combos like that round there?(near sedge fen ish not hh! ) Didn't get a great look as was hanging on for dear life, roads have got proper bad!

Good spot, there wasn't any seed in the drill though, I'd just taken it up to that farm ready to start later in the week. I thought I'd see how it went into the silt ridge whilst it was wet and the answer was not well!

Couple of dry days and we'll be off.
